We think of Bethlehem as a joyful place where the baby Jesus was born. Yet not all greeted His birth with gladness. Men who loved power above all else feared the coming of the Messiah. In an attempt to eliminate the baby Jesus, the evil King Herod unleashed a group of soldiers on the village to kill all the boys under the age of two.

Imagine for a moment that you were commanded to do such a thing. Imagine that you obeyed. What memories would follow you every day thereafter? How would you live under the burden of that guilt?

"Suffer the Children" imagines one such Roman soldier, hardened and embittered from a lifetime of despair, who is stationed in Jerusalem when the Messiah bursts onto the scene. Through the eyes of children, our soldier sees the unconditional love of Jesus and begins to hope - until he finds himself guarding the tomb of the crucified Messiah.
